A Long Line of Engineers

Throughout history, civil engineers have created structures that have advanced civilization.

Timeline

Around 300 BCE, the Romans created aqueducts to carry drinking water from mountain springs to their cities.

Five hundred years ago, the Incas of South America built canals and ditches to move water to their farms.

Near 250 BCE, the Chinese designed the Dujiangyan irrigation system to control floods, and it's still working in the 21st century!

Today, modern dams are supplying water for millions of people all over the world. The Hoover Dam in Nevada is more than 700 feet tall and supplies water to over 25 million people.
